Olive harvest

Past Event

RESERVATIONS FULL

The public is invited to participate in a morning olive harvest on the historic Sunnylands estate. The olives will be used to produce Sunnylands Olive Oil, which will be available in the gift shop.

Register HERE. Registration is free, but spots are limited to about 100 people per day on September 11 and September 12.

Gates open at 6:30 am.

Check-in and harvesting will begin at 6:45 am. Only registered volunteers will be directed to parking, and then to sign-in tables. At registration, volunteers will be asked to produce a printed and signed copy of their registration form (see above link) and receive a wristband. Volunteers will be assigned to a harvesting team led by Sunnylands staff and UC Master Gardeners.  Volunteers will gather and sort olives off the ground after they’ve been shaken from the trees. Carts will circulate the 200-acre property so harvesters may take breaks at cooling stations, fill water bottles, and use restrooms.

At noon, volunteers will be transported to a milling area for a harvest fest, including a light lunch and a short presentation on the milling process. The event will close at 1:30 pm.

Parking:
Parking is free. Carpooling is encouraged. Registered volunteers will receive an email with additional information and instructions.

What to wear and bring:
Volunteers should wear light-colored, loose clothing; a hat; and close-toed shoes. Light gardening gloves are optional, but recommended. Volunteers should bring a refillable water bottle, snacks, and sun screen.

Please note: A reservation is required for each individual attending the harvest. Unregistered guests may not attend. Children must be 10 years or older to participate. Minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Smoking, alcohol, and pets are not allowed.
