Sustainable Democracy Goals: Launching a Roadmap for Impact by 2026
From October 21 to 23, 2022, The Annenberg Foundation Trust at Sunnylands partnered with More Perfect: Partnership for American Democracy, a national campaign to align American citizens and institutions around a shared vision for our democracy, to host the retreat, Sustainable Democracy Goals: Launching a Roadmap for Impact by 2026.
This campaign is supported by thirteen Presidential Centers, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the Karsh Institute of Democracy at the University of Virginia, and more than 100 organizations which, individually and as a whole, are committed to collective action for democratic change as we approach 2026, the 250th anniversary of American independence.
The retreat convened experts from philanthropy, civil society, and business to explore ways to improve the health of democracy in the United States. Discussions centered on how to drive energy, resources, and action around achieving measurable progress on five Sustainable Democracy Goals: Universal Civic Learning; National Service and Volunteering; Bridging Divides and Increased Social Trust; Trusted Elections and More Representative and Responsive Governance; and Access to Trusted News and Information.
The objective and work of partners coming out of this retreat is to refine and update the five goals based on the discussion and feedback at Sunnylands and to transition More Perfect to the implementation phase to drive progress on all five goals in the months and years ahead.
