In October 2017, Sunnylands hosted a U.S.-India Strategic Dialogue that convened 20 current and former military, diplomatic and political leaders to engage in a discussion on pressing security issues facing the U.S. and India.
Over the course of two days, participants deliberated on several important topics in the bilateral security relationship, including ways to deepen the strategic relationship, strengthen defense cooperation, ease defense acquisition, expand defense industrial cooperation, improve defense engagement, and develop an agenda for a potential meeting between highest-level U.S. officials and their Indian counterparts.
The goal of the dialogue was to foster a better understanding of the obstacles that impede progress toward the two countries’ mutual goals.
Partner organizations for the retreat were the United States Pacific Command, the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, and the Brookings Institution.
