Sunnylands Monarch Tag Team
Sunnylands is forming a Monarch Butterfly Tag Team. Train with Sunnylands Monarch tagging staff and Gail Morris from the Southwest Monarch Study. We will provide in-class instruction, as well as in the field training to learn how to identify Monarch butterflies, safely net them, collect their vital statistics for reporting to the national database, and tag them for further monitoring. Upon completion, some participants will be able to become part of our onsite tagging team.
This is a three-hour training that requires pre-registration. Space is extremely limited.
All equipment for the training will be provided. Minimum age to participate is 14 years.
This program takes place outdoors. Sun protection, water, and comfortable closed-toed shoes are recommended.
Free to participate. Sign up HERE.
Sunnylands has been working with local schools for several years to document the Monarch butterflies in the Coachella Valley. We are increasing our efforts by opening the training to the public. Monarch butterfly populations are showing declines throughout their range and had a significant drop in California this year.
