Family Day: C.C. Airlines
Join students from Cathedral City High School’s Creativity, Activity, & Service (CAS) program at Sunnylands Center & Gardens for a free Family Day event, C.C. Airlines, on January 21, from 9 am to 2 pm.
Explore a student-led simulated airport featuring various hands-on activities teaching guests about cultural traditions from nations around the world, including Mexico, Brazil, Australia, Italy, China, Jamaica, Nigeria, and Poland.
Participants will receive a “passport” to explore the following student-led activities:
- Plant-making station: Plant seeds as you learn about specimens native to Mexico, including the dahlia and marigold.
- Carnival mask-making: In honor of Brazil’s famous Carnival festival, kids can create their own decorative masks using paper plates
- Simulated pasta-making: Create playful pasta using Play-Doh and learn about the traditions of Italian pasta.
- Coral reef in a jar: Create a take-home coral reef in a jar inspired by the coral reef’s around Australia.
- Hóngbāo gifting envelopes: Using Chinese traditions, decorate a red envelope to celebrate the new year.
- African sand paper art: Use crayons and sand paper to create cave drawings inspired by cave art from Nigeria.
- Polish ceramics and pottery: Decorate pre-filled ceramics that celebrate Polish culture.
- Paper plate sea turtles: Learn about sea turtles commonly found along the Jamaican coast as you create your own sea turtle using paper plates, paint, and coloring utensils.
All Family Day activities are free of charge. Admission and parking are free. Reservations not required. Program changes may require the cancellation or rescheduling of some events.
Outdoor programs may be canceled or modified due to weather conditions, including rain, lightning, or strong winds.
