Plan Your Visit

Sunnylands is in a desert environment, home to a variety of plants and wildlife. Be aware of your surroundings, watch your step, and help children explore safely. Visitors are encouraged to be prepared with water, hat, and sunscreen.  
Sunnylands is a smoke-free environment. Pets are not allowed. No food or drink other than water is allowed on tours of the historic estate.


Both the historic house and Sunnylands Center are on one level, with no stairs or changes in elevation. Parts of the Gardens can be accessed easily in a wheelchair. The garden walk contains some uneven surfaces. One tour shuttle is accessible for guests using wheelchairs. When purchasing tickets, please indicate your special needs. 


Lockers are provided for backpacks and other personal items. Purses and bags larger than 12 x 14 inches are not allowed on tours of the historic house.  


Parking is free. Carpooling is encouraged. 


Pets and emotional support animals are not permitted at Sunnylands. Service animals are allowed. Service dog fraud is a crime as per California Penal Code 365.7(a). Emotional support animals are not ADA Service Animals. Please do not leave unattended animals in your vehicle. This is also a crime under California law. 


Visitors are welcome to take photos and videos of the grounds and of Sunnylands Center & Gardens for their personal use, however, staged photos (wedding, engagement, graduation, school teams, etc.) are not allowed as it disturbs other guests. Violation of this policy may result in your being asked to leave the premises.
Photography is not permitted in the historic house. This no-photo policy is in place to enhance the visitor experience and to ensure guests look closely at and thoroughly enjoy Sunnylands’ art, architecture, design, and sculpture.
Commercial photography and videography require special permission. The personal or commercial sale of photos of Sunnylands is strictly prohibited.  


Guests may bring picnics and food to Sunnylands Gardens, however, we request you do so in bags or coolers no larger than 12 x 12 inches and that you utilize the benches and Great Lawn for picnics. Tables and chairs inside the Café and on the terrace outside the Café are reserved for Café patrons only. Please do not bring food through the Center and dispose of trash in the trash receptacles and recycling bins. Large coolers, ice chests, grills, and alcohol are not permitted. 

Plein Air Art

You may paint/sketch/photograph in the Gardens on Thursday through Sunday, 8:30 a.m. – 3:45 p.m. Engaging in the privilege of using Sunnylands Center & Gardens as a creative Plein Air venue indicates your agreement to follow guidelines as posted here. Failure to comply with the guidelines may result in you losing the privilege.  

Sunnylands Café

Beverages, light lunches, and snacks items are available. Seating in and around the café is reserved for café patrons.  

Sunnylands Shop

Features books, postcards, note cards, art objects, and gift items. 


Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the Sunnylands property.
