Talia Smith

Talia serves as Co-Director of Knowledge Generation at the Food and Land Use Coalition (FOLU), working from SYSTEMIQ, one of the coalition’s nine core partners. In this capacity, she leads several research and engagement initiatives on food and land use systems transformation. She is lead or contributing author to FOLU’s flagship publications, such as Positive Tipping Points for Food and Land Use Systems Transformation and Growing Better: 10 Critical Transitions to Transform Food & Land Use. At SYSTEMIQ, she is also responsible for directing projects advising philanthropies on their climate investment strategies.
Prior to joining SYSTEMIQ, Talia was an international development consultant, designing infrastructure, land use and natural resource management programs in sub-Saharan Africa and Southeast Asia. She has previously lived in Indonesia and Myanmar, focusing on smallholder agriculture and efforts to reduce deforestation (REDD+). Over the years, she has worked with a range of governments and development partners. She holds a degree in International Development (Political Science and Economics) from McGill University and a Master of Public Administration from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs.
