Laura Stone

Laura Stone is currently the Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary of State in the Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs (EAP), U.S. Department of State. She is responsible for policy related to China, Mongolia, and Taiwan.

Previously, she served as the Director of the Office of Chinese and Mongolian Affairs, Director of the Economic Policy Office in EAP, and Economic Counselor in Hanoi. In addition, Laura has served three tours in Beijing as well as tours in Bangkok, the Public Affairs Bureau, the Pentagon Office of the Secretary of Defense, and the Bureau of Intelligence and Research. Ms. Stone received the Cordell Hull Award for Economic Achievement by Senior Officers in 2015.

Laura received a Master of Philosophy from Oxford University and a Bachelor of Arts from Cornell University. She speaks Chinese. Laura is married to Mark Lambert, the Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Korean Affairs and Acting Special Representative for North Korean Policy.
