Dr. Lynn Lee

Dr. Lynn Lee is Associate Director for Asia at the National Endowment for Democracy, a Congressionally funded, private grant-making organization, where she oversees the grant portfolios for rule of law, civil society development, independent media, and human rights programs in North Korea, China, Vietnam, Mongolia, and Cambodia. She also directs Asia Regional initiatives, aiming to bolster democratic norms, values, institutions, and strengthen solidarity among democracy champions across the region, in addition to leading the Endowment’s grant-making efforts to address China’s influence in undermining human rights and democracy in Asia and beyond.
Prior to joining the Endowment 11 years ago, Dr. Lee was a Senior Project Manager at InterMedia, where she managed research projects for major media organizations that broadcast radio and TV programming to Asia such as Radio Free Asia, Voice of America, and the BBC. She also carried out a two-year independent evaluation of U.S. State Department-funded international nongovernmental organizations working on rule of law, civil society support, labor rights, and free access to information in China. She earned her doctorate in development studies from Sussex University and master’s degree in urban and regional planning from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
