Chris Van Es

Senior Vice President for Communications & External Engagement, Export-Import Bank of the United States

Chris Van Es is currently senior vice president for communications and external engagement at the Export-Import Bank of the United States, where he oversees the agency’s external affairs as part of the Biden-Harris administration.

Previously, Chris served in global public affairs roles at the intersection of economic and financial policy. From 2017 to 2021, he was senior director and deputy for corporate communications at the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority. Before that, he was acting deputy assistant secretary at the U.S. Department of the Treasury. In that role, he was the chief liaison to the global business community, major think tanks and advocacy groups. He also served as an account supervisor at Hill+Knowlton Strategies, special advisor for public engagement at the U.S. Small Business Administration, and as a staff assistant at the White House.

Chris is an active leader in his community. He served on the National Finance Committee for Biden for President in 2020. He is member of the Advisory Council for Global Kids, an organization dedicated to developing youth leaders through dynamic, intercultural education. He is a term member in the Council on Foreign Relations.

Chris received Bachelor of Arts degrees in Political Science and History from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and lives in Washington, D.C., with his husband. He is an avid runner and traveler, having spent time in nearly 30 countries.
