Music in the Gardens: The Louie Bluies
Sunnylands Center & Gardens presents its annual Music in the Gardens concert series beginning Sunday, March 4, and continuing every Sunday throughout the month. The public is invited to stroll in the Gardens or bring a lawn chair and have a picnic on the Great Lawn while enjoying a different musical act each weekend.
Every performance is free and takes place from 11 am to 1 pm. While guests are invited to bring food and picnics to Sunnylands, large coolers, ice chests, grills, and alcohol are not permitted.
Introducing a brand new act to Sunnylands. The Louie Bluies (named after exemplary blues artist Louie Bluie aka Howard Armstrong). The Bluies were formed three years ago and boasts an extremely eclectic catalog of songs, from blues to ragtime and country to jazz. The Bluies are comprised of Joey Latimer, an amazing musician, storyteller and artist. Joey has a vast number of recordings out and his career extends over four decades. Marshall Hawkins is possibly best known for being one of several bassists who played for Miles Davis. He now heads up the Jazz Department at Idyllwild Arts Academy and is also the music director of the annual three-day Jazz in the Pines festival held on campus at Idyllwild Arts in Idyllwild. Lastly is Don Reed, a multi-instrumentalist who lives, works and performs in Idyllwild, CA. This is a great combo of stellar musicians and heartfelt vocals.
