Our free Films in the Gardens series returns in May, featuring films with a theme of “Growing Wild,” inspired by the exhibition Curating Canopy: Trees at Sunnylands.

Films in the Gardens runs for three consecutive Friday evenings in May. This series begins with a screening of The BFG (2016) on May 1, at 8 pm.

Please see below for details of the featured films:

  • May 1 at 8 pm – The BFG (2016)–An orphan little girl befriends a benevolent giant who takes her to Giant Country, where they attempt to stop the man-eating giants that are invading the human world. (IMDb). Rated: PG. Run time: 1 hour 57 minutes.
  • May 8 at 8 pm – Where the Wild Things Are (2009) – Yearning for escape and adventure, a young boy runs away from home and sails to an island filled with creatures that take him in as their king. (IMDb). Rated: PG. Run time: 1 hour 45 minutes.
  • May 15 at 8 pm – The NeverEnding Story (1984)– Bastian finds a magical book in an old bookstore that takes him on an adventure into the land of Fantasia. (IMDb). Rated: PG. Run time: 1 hour 42 minutes.

Gates open at 7 pm. Film begins at 8 pm. Admission is free. Reservations are not required. Carpooling is strongly encouraged. Please note, parking at the gate or along Bob Hope Drive will not be permitted.

No seating is provided. Filmgoers are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets, and small picnics. Large coolers, alcohol, smoking, and pets are not permitted.

Films in the Gardens is presented in partnership with the Palm Springs International Film Festival.
