This salon discussion will explore the role of an ambassador, the future of diplomacy, and how the speakers’ wide-ranging experiences have shaped their distinguished careers in the Foreign Service.

Speakers:
Ambassador Kathleen Doherty (ret.) is the Chief Strategy Officer at Sunnylands, joining the Trust after a distinguished State Department career that included service as U.S. Ambassador to Cyprus and Dean of the Foreign Service Institute. She held senior embassy roles in Rome, Moscow, and London, championing democratic and economic reform, women’s empowerment, and strategic partnerships. A highly decorated diplomat and former journalist, she has deep expertise in international negotiation, leadership through change, and U.S.–European relations.
Ambassador Kristina A. Kvien (ret.) is President and CEO of the Pacific Council on International Policy. She brings more than three decades of U.S. diplomatic experience, including service as Ambassador to Armenia and Chargé d’Affaires in Ukraine, where she led the embassy’s 2022 evacuation and return. She held senior posts across Europe and Southeast Asia and at the National Security Council, offering compelling insight into diplomacy, leadership, and global affairs.
