Event Details
Explore the vibrant arts and cultures of Asia at Sunnylands with a special program coordinated by Cathedral City High School’s Creativity, Activity, and Service (CAS) Program. Students have prepared interactive activities throughout the West Gardens where guests can learn about different Asian cultures.
Saturday, January 31, 8:30 am-2 pm
This event is free for all participants. All ages welcome.
The following activities categorized by their country or region of origin will be available:
Japan
- Oragami: Japanese art form of meticulously folded paper into various shapes like plants or animals.
China
- Shadow puppets: A form of ancient storytelling.
- Lanterns: A light source originated in the Han Dynasty to symbolize Buddha’s presence.
- Fan Painting: To symbolize wisdom and authority during the Zhou Dynasty.
- Bolang Gu: Traditional Chinese instruments played for ceremonies or performances.
Korea
- Calligraphy: One of the highest art forms and means of communication in Korea.
South Asia
- Henna: A dye made from dried, powdered leaves used for body art during weddings, festivals, and rites of passage to symbolize joy, love, and prosperity.
Central Asia
- Alchiks: Kazahk children’s game.
Iran
- Persian rugs: One of the oldest traditions of craftsmanship in Iran.

Families are encouraged to participate. Programming is appropriate for homeschoolers.
Parking and admission are free. Reservations are not required.
