Walter and Leonore Annenberg created The Annenberg Foundation Trust at Sunnylands in 2001 to establish their 200-acre winter estate in Rancho Mirage, Calif., as a venue where national and international leaders could meet to promote peace and facilitate international agreement. The foundation operates The Annenberg Retreat at Sunnylands, which opened Sunnylands Center & Gardens in 2012. This 15-acre site adjacent to the historic estate offers special exhibits on the history of the Annenbergs, as well as a café, gift shop, and public programs.
