Protected: Susan Ness

Susan Ness is a former member of the U.S. Federal Communications Commission, where she played a leading role on spectrum policy, international ICT advocacy, competition policy, and emerging technologies. She founded Susan Ness Strategies, a digital tech and media policy consulting firm, and is a frequent convenor and speaker on tech governance issues.

She is a distinguished fellow at the Annenberg Public Policy Center of the University of Pennsylvania, where she leads a project on modularity to better align global digital technology governance despite different regulatory frameworks. Earlier, she convened the Transatlantic High-Level Working Group on Content Moderation and Freedom of Expression, which published fourteen working papers and a final report.

Ms. Ness also is a nonresident senior fellow at the Atlantic Council, where she focuses on global digital policy. Previously, she was affiliated with the German Marshall Fund, working on transatlantic digital governance, privacy, and human rights, and with the SAIS Center for Transatlantic Relations of Johns Hopkins University, where she focused on transatlantic trade and technology policy, and convened the annual SAIS Global Conference on Women in the Boardroom.

She is a member of the board of Vital Voices Global Partnership, an NGO that identifies and supports a worldwide network of women leaders who are taking on the world’s toughest challenges. She also is a member of the World Economic Forum’s Global Coalition for Digital Safety. Previously, she served on three corporate boards in the media and telecom sectors, and on the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board, where she twice was elected vice chair of the Board.

Ms. Ness received a Bachelor of Arts from Douglass College (Rutgers University), a Juris Doctor from Boston College Law School, and an MBA from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
