Paul Newnham

Director, SDG2 Advocacy Hub

Paul specializes in generating solutions to complex problems alongside communities around the world. Currently living just out of London, Paul coordinates the Sustainable Development Goal 2 (SDG2) Advocacy Hub secretariat incubated by the World Food Programme. Uniting the private sector, UN agencies, NGOs and civil society together, the SDG2 Advocacy Hub strives to strengthen efforts towards seeing zero hunger by 2030.

Working strategically alongside advocates globally, Paul seeks to generate disruptive change that will impact not only the distribution of food, but the way we interact with food for years to come. Most recently working closely with chefs, through online outreach and a series of workshops, over 130 chefs from 38 countries have co-created a Chefs’ Manifesto. Developed by chefs, for chefs, the Manifesto outlines the food system issues that chefs are most passionate about tackling and an action plan to achieve this.

Paul has extensive knowledge of the not-for-profit sector, as well as vast experience managing complex stakeholder relationships.  Having worked for 15 years with World Vision Australia, New Zealand, Chile, and the Global Headquarters, his career has focused on the belief that it is possible to end global poverty. He has worked in communities throughout Africa, Asia, The Middle East, Europe, and The Americas to bring about positive, lasting, sustainable change.  He is a strong advocate for good development, working alongside communities to improve livelihoods.  He has many years of expertise in campaigning, fundraising, managing teams, marketing and intrapreneurial innovation.

In his earlier years, Paul served his country as a Reservist Combat Engineer, worked as a youth pastor, a youth camp director and as an event manager of his own company. He has traveled extensively, visiting more than a third of the world’s countries. He has also lived for extended periods throughout the developing world, including Latin America, Africa, Europe, and Asia. He is happily married to an expert re-locator, and is the proud father of four confident, adventuring children who all have strange accents.
