Jonathan Papoulidis

Executive Advisor on Fragile States, World Vision

Jonathan Papoulidis is the Executive Advisor on Fragile States at World Vision where he provides leadership on the agency’s U.S. policy, programming and multi-stakeholder partnerships for fragile states. 

He is a Visiting Scholar at Stanford University’s Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies. Jonathan previously served with the United Nations: as Chief of Policy and Programmes in the Office of the UN Recovery Coordinator in Indonesia, then as UN Coordinator for Aceh and Nias and Security Coordinator for Sumatra. From 2004-2006, he served in the UN peacekeeping mission in Liberia as advisor to the UN Deputy SRSG for Governance and Recovery. Before that, he was the senior UN OCHA representative in Turkey preparing for the 2003 Iraq humanitarian response. Prior to these postings, Jonathan served at UN headquarters in New York, focusing on protection of civilians, conflict prevention, private sector partnerships and post-crisis transitional planning.

He has written for the Brookings Institution, OECD, Harvard International Review, Yale Journal of International Affairs, DevEx and the Cambridge Review of International Affairs. He has a Masters in International Relations from the University of Cambridge.
