Gregg H. Alton

Gregg H. Alton was appointed to the role of Chief Patient Officer in August 2018. In this role, he is responsible for leading Gilead’s efforts to reach and engage patients and facilitate access to the company’s medicines. Gregg oversees the company’s corporate affairs functions, medical affairs, and developing world access programs, as well as the digital patient solutions and patient-centered outcomes groups. He also leads the company’s commercial operations in certain countries around the world. He has held a number of executive positions since joining Gilead in 1999, including general counsel.

Prior to joining Gilead, Gregg was an attorney at the law firm of Cooley Godward, LLP, where he specialized in mergers and acquisitions, corporate partnerships and corporate finance transactions for healthcare, and information technology companies.

Gregg is a member of the boards of the AIDS Institute and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Oakland. He is also a member of the U.S. government’s Industry Trade Advisory Committee on Intellectual Property Rights, the advisory boards of UCSF Global Health Group, USC Schaeffer Center for Health Policy and Economics, and the UC Berkeley College of Letters & Science. In addition, he serves on Partners In Health’s Board of Trustees and the board of directors of Collidion, Inc.

Gregg received a bachelor’s degree in legal studies from the University of California at Berkeley, and holds a JD from Stanford University.
