Protected: Alexandra Lieben

Alexandra Lieben is the deputy director of the Ronald W. Burkle Center for International Relations and lecturer at the UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs. A certified mediator, she teaches constructive communication, alternative dispute resolution, public dialogue, cultural competency, international conflict resolution, and community and economic development to undergraduate and graduate students at UCLA. In addition to her role at the Burkle Center, Lieben has also served as a faculty advisor on social impact projects for the UCLA Anderson School’s Applied Management Research Program and is an affiliated faculty member of the Promise Institute for Human Rights at the UCLA School of Law. Lieben is also a member of the advisory board of the Thomas Mann House, a German government democracy initiative in Los Angeles. 
 
For the past nine years, she has held seminars in crisis prevention, crisis de-escalation, constructive communication, multi-stakeholder conflict resolution, leadership, organizational and community development, as well as cultural competency for executives and managers of public safety and public sector agencies, from law enforcement to the fire department, EMS, public health, district attorneys, as well as non-profits, local, state, and federal agencies. 
 
Prior to entering academia, Lieben was a rock and jazz concert promoter in Europe and worked for several years in feature and documentary film production in Austria and Los Angeles. She not only organized small to large-scale concerts and worked in film productions but also successfully worked across cultures with different stakeholder groups, mediating conflicts, advocating in multiple languages for people’s interests and bridging divides to attain shared goals. 
 
Lieben holds a MA in public policy with specializations in conflict resolution, international- and labor policy from UCLA and graduated summa cum laude from UCLA with a BA in sociology.
