CV Days of Los Muertos

Past Event

For the sixth year, in partnership with various organizations, Sunnylands will celebrate Coachella Valley Days of Los Muertos.

From October 30 through November 3, visitors to Sunnylands Center & Gardens will find ofrendas (ceremonial altars) created by several Coachella Valley organizations and calaveras (skulls) around the Great Lawn.

  • Ofrendas are altars created to celebrate and honor the life of a loved one who has passed and they often have flowers, food, photos, and personal mementos of the person being remembered. Families are invited to learn about the cultural history and significance of this tradition and the many symbols associated with it.
  • Calaveras are some of the most recognizable cultural and artistic elements of the Day of the Dead celebrations. These colorful skulls are traditionally placed in altars and used to honor and celebrate the life of the deceased in joyful and humorous ways.

Altars will be on display in the gardens from 8:30 am to 4 pm October 30 through November 3.
