The Last Emperor

On Wednesday, November 13 Sunnylands will present The Last Emperor, directed by Bernardo Bertolucci and starring John Lone, Joan Chen, and Peter O'Toole. An epic biopic of the life of Puyi, The Last Emperor of China, traces his life from his ascent to the throne as a small boy, to his imprisonment and political rehabilitation by the Communist Chinese authorities. Visually sumptuous, the film won nine Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Director, and is the first feature film to be shot inside the Forbidden City in Beijing.  
 
Please note: The time of the screening has changed. The film will now begin at 6:00 p.m. sharp. Guests are invited to arrive as early as 5:30 p.m. Carpooling is strongly advised. Filmgoers are encouraged to bring chairs and blankets and may bring small picnics but are reminded that no large coolers are allowed at Sunnylands. Alcoholic beverages are prohibited. The film program is presented in partnership with the Palm Springs International Film Festival.
